Results of SPIEF-2018

The Governor appreciated work of the Front Office for Investor Relations

St. Petersburg International Economic Forum took place last week. Traditionally, Leningrad region actively participated in the Forum. This year it was very busy for the team of the region and we’d like to sum up its results.

The most important result for Leningrad region was the 12th place in the National Regional Investment Climate Ranking which was announced during the second day of SPIEF-2018. Leningrad region has climbed from the 20th to the 12th place which is the best result of the region in the Ranking ever. This year competition among regions was really tough, positions were extremely close to each other. That’s why the region has to continue working actively in order not only to keep such result, but to improve it.

“Today I’m more worried than excited, because I realize that it wasn’t easy to keep positions in top-20 and the 12th place implies even greater efforts. That’s why it won’t be easy to stay among the leaders. For us the 12th place is a really good result. Undoubtedly, next year we need to enter top-10, but of course it will be hard,” commented the Governor Alexander Drozdenko.

During the Forum the Governor signed 19 agreements in various spheres, the total volume of investments is 50 billion rubles. It is worth mentioning that more than a half of the agreements were concluded with the companies already operating in the region which proves its reliability and correctness of its investment policy.

“The best proof of investment attractiveness of the region is signing agreements with the companies already working in the region and planning to expand production. They know that Leningrad region is a reliable partner and nice to deal with,” said the Governor.

During SPIEF-2018 Siemens Gas Turbine Technologies launched a new facility for repair and restoration of gas turbine blades. The new complex located in the industrial zone Gorelovo is the first facility for repair of gas turbines in Russia.

“The best proof of good investment climate in Leningrad region is not only new investors but expansion of those who work in the region today. Because you know how to work with the Russian Federation, with Leningrad region and whether we keep our word, whether we fulfill our commitments or not,” noted Deputy Chairman of the Government of Leningrad Region – Chairman of the Committee for Economic Development and Investment Activity Dmitry Yalov during the opening ceremony.

Alexander Drozdenko highly appreciated design and work of the exhibition stand of Leningrad region which presented investment potential and cluster initiatives of the region. Visitors of the stand noticed its good configuration, thoughtful zoning and modern interesting design. One of innovative solutions appreciated by the Governor was digital signing of agreements. This way of signing was not only new, but it proved to be convenient in terms of organization of the ceremonies and saving time.

“Leningrad region is a region which announced transition to digitalization, to electronic document management in the near future, not in words but in deeds. All agreements will be signed today in electronic way,” said Alexander Drozdenko.

For the first time at SPIEF Leningrad region organized round tables at its exhibition stand initiated by the regional team – “Industry 4.0 as a driver for business and state. Staffing transition to the new industrial future of the region” organized by the Front Office for Investor Relations of the Administration of Leningrad Region and round tables “The best practices of cluster initiatives in Leningrad region” and “Autoprom North-West: development of cooperation and subcontracting” organized by the Center for Industrial Development of Leningrad Region.

Besides, the Government of Leningrad Region also for the first time initiated an event which was included in the business programme of SPIEF-2018 – “Implementation of Strategic Goals through Projects: How to Make a Breakthrough”.

At the exhibition stand of the region the participants of the Forum could receive information not only about investment potential of Leningrad region, but also about its cluster initiatives: developing cluster of shipbuilders and marine equipment manufacturers, industrial cluster Autoprom North-West, Northwestern cluster of food industry and biotechnologies.
