The investment project of Metsa Group and Leningrad region, which resulted in a modern wood processing plant for the region, is a great example of mutually beneficial partnership between business and the government. Metsa Svir is a sawmill which is a part of Metsa Group. Metsa Group is the leader in stable bioeconomics and manufacture of paper products using renewable wood from sustainably managed northern forests. Metsa Group specializes in supplies of wood raw material and provision of forestry services, as well as in production of goods made of wood, cellulose, cardboard of primary fibrous cellulose cardboard, sanitary-hygienic and culinary paper. 

Metsa Svir is one of the most modern wood processing plants in Russia and is a perfect example of successful implementation of one of the largest investment projects in the forest industry of Leningrad region. The factory manufactures high quality dry spruce lumber. The products of the plant are sold mostly at the European, Asian and Middle Eastern markets. The lumber materials are delivered to the factory by Metsa Forest Podporozhye.

September 2004: Svir Timber (renamed to Metsa Svir in April 2012) and Leningrad region signed an agreement regarding implementation of investment activity in Leningrad region
7 June 2006: the sawmill was commissioned and production activities began
May 2011: 1 million cubic metres of the product was released
2011: all manufacturing processes were brought in compliance with the requirements of international forestry certification and PEFC and FSC certificates were received
2015: 2 million cubic metres of products were released
