Yuri Simachev, Director of Economic Policy at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, presented estimates of the factors limiting the growth of the manufacturing industry in Russia from March 2021 to December 2024.
According to him, since mid-2024, a "new uncertainty" has formed due to the impact of secondary sanctions, changes in monetary policy, a possible adjustment of the US foreign economic course under the Donald Trump administration, as well as the return of a number of foreign companies to the Russian market.
The speaker noted that among the key challenges is the accelerated growth in the significance of the problem of a shortage of skilled workers. In addition, the impact of seizures in the financial sector has increased: companies are faced with an increase in the tax burden and high interest rates on loans, which significantly constrains their investment opportunities.
