The Leningrad Region continues to develop cooperation with Finland

At a meeting between the head of the economic bloc of the Leningrad Region Dmitry Yalov and the Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Finland Nina Vaskunlahti, cooperation and outlined promising directions was discussed.

Finland ranks 2nd in terms of trade turnover with the Leningrad Region,

704.2 mln US dollars - trade turnover in the first half of 2021, it increased by 31.9% compared to the same period in 2020.As Dmitry Yalov said, Finnish business is active in our region - several large joint projects with Finnish companies are successfully operating. For example, the production of automobile tires by “Nokian Tires” LLC, “Metsä Svir” LLC sawmill, “Valio” is a strategic partner of the “Galaktika” dairy plant.

An important common agenda is the transition to a green economy and low-carbon development. Finland has set an ambitious goal of becoming the first carbon neutral country by 2035.

“A green transition for enterprises will be a good opportunity from an economic point of view,” said Nina Vaskunlahti.

Dmitry Yalov emphasized that the experience of Finland in this direction is very interesting for the Leningrad region, where they are also focused on the introduction of green technologies and energy transition. Director of the Agency for Economic Development Anastasia Mikhalchenko suggested organizing a round table on this topic next year to discuss existing practices and joint events.
