Nokian Tyres which has the largest tyres production factory in Vsevolozhsk, Leningrad region, continues implementing its environmental project NOKIAN ECO CHALLENGE.
The first truck with ten tonnes of derelict tyres went from the town of Sosnovy Bor to a tyre recycling plant. According to the preliminary estimates, four trucks are required to transport tyres after cleaning the territory of the town.
NOKIAN ECO CHALLENGE is a federal project aimed at attraction public attention to the problem of tyre recycling and reduction of environmental burden by organizing transportation of used tyres from tyre dumps and of those collected by regional waste management operators and municipalities.
“Nokian Tyres is a socially responsible and innovative company which can’t stand aside environmental problems in our country. That’s why we are really glad that more and more people are involved in NOKIAN ECO CHALLENGE project. We are grateful to our consumers who demonstrate the culture of responsible consumption of tyres as well as to the volunteers and employees of Nokian Tyres for their reports about illegal tyre dumps,” commented Andrey Pantyukhov, CEO of Nokian Tyres Russia.
Due to the joint efforts of Nokian Tyres and Rational Nature Management Fund the volume of illegal tyres dumps in several Russian regions has declined by more than 500 tonnes since the launch of the project.
