Want to see Romeo and Juliet in Vyborg, see Swan Lake in Boksitogorsk, or participate in the Walrus Race? We've prepared a digest of upcoming exciting cultural events in the 47th region.
First off, we have some good news for ballet lovers: the Russian Classical Ballet Theatre is coming on tour. On February 16th, they'll be performing Swan Lake in Boksitogorsk, and on the 19th in Kingisepp and the 23rd in Vyborg, they'll be performing Sergei Prokofiev's Cinderella.
Learn more about the life of the composer of Swan Lake at the Gatchina Palace. The exhibition "Alexander III and Tchaikovsky: Tsar and Composer" will run throughout the month. Theatergoers should be interested in the Golden Sofit Award-winning performance of My Happiness, which will be shown there on February 15th.
Incidentally, until 1982, not a single district center in the Leningrad Region had its own professional theater. The first was the State Drama and Puppet Theater "Holy Fortress" in Vyborg. Until 1999, it staged only children's puppet shows, but then acquired the status of a "drama theater" and almost immediately received its first Golden Soffit Award. The February repertoire includes "Winnie-the-Pooh and All-All-All" for the very young (February 8), "The Shadow" based on the play of the same name by Yevgeny Schwartz (February 13 and 14), and Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," which lovers of unusual interpretations of classics will be able to enjoy on February 23. The theater's full repertoire is available here.
Vyborg is often called an architectural encyclopedia. In addition to medieval buildings, unique buildings in the Northern Art Nouveau style, as well as Neo-Renaissance, Neoclassicism, and Finnish Modernism are represented. We also don't forget about physical activity. If the cold is just invigorating you, there are still a few days left to register for VLED TRAIL 2.0 and try your hand at trail running—running across natural terrain. The event will take place on February 15th in the Vsevolozhsk District, and the whole family is recommended. Children will be able to compete in the kilometer-long course, and in addition to the main program, there will be the traditional "Walrus Run," a "Snegotop" (Nordic walking) competition, and a "Festive Cake Run." Don't miss it!
And to unwind from the daily hustle and bustle and clear your head, head to the "Russian Beauty" club village on the shores of Lake Kamenka. The Big Winter Yoga and Meditation Festival will be held there from February 13th to 15th.
