Gatchinsky Municipal District is located in the central part of the Leningrad Region, in the basin of the Oredezh and Izhora rivers. The district borders the Luzhsky, Volosovsky, Tosnensky, and Lomonosovsky municipal districts of the Leningrad Region. To the north, the district borders the territory of Saint Petersburg, lying in its suburban zone, 42 km south of the city center. On the territory of the Taitskoye territorial administration, there is a small territorial enclave of Saint Petersburg (Khvoyny settlement).

Infrastructure: All major southern transport routes pass through or near the district: federal highways M-20 "Saint Petersburg – Pskov – Pustoshka – Nevel" and "Narva", Moskovskoye Highway, the main A-120 route (effectively a second half-ring around the northern capital, which is very promising as it provides access both to federal highways and to the ports under construction in Ust-Luga). The district has an extensive network of paved roads and developed railway connections in the Vitebsk, Pskov, and Tallinn directions. Pulkovo International Airport is located near the district's borders.
Economy: The leading sector in the district's economy is manufacturing, accounting for 74% of the total volume of shipped goods of own production, work performed, and services rendered by own enterprises. Manufacturing enterprises produce a wide range of industrial goods and consumer products. For 2025, the volume of shipped goods of own production, work and services performed by large and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises amounted to 181,073.3 million rubles.
