Slantsevsky district is situated in the south-west of Leningrad region between the Narva river and the Luga river. The district is bordered by Kingiseppsky, Volosovsky and Luzhsky districts of Leningrad region in the north and in the east, by Gdovsky and Plyussky districts of Pskov region in the south. Since 1993 there has been a frontier with the Republic of Estonia following the Narva River in the western border of the district.

Economy: over the last years the economy of Slantsevsky district is characterized by positive trends. New enterprises are being established and real growth points appear in the district, despite the fact that the enterprises which occupied the leading positions in the Soviet times are still being reorganized.
In 2019 the volume of shipped goods and services provided by the large and medium-sized industrial enterprises of Slantsevsky district reduced by 14.5% in comparison with the previous year and amounted to 10.7 billion rubles.
The average number of employees in industry has increased by 4.5% and amounted to 1,854 people as of 01.01.2020. The average salary has increased by 7% in comparison with 2019 and amounted to 40,359 rubles.
Development of the economic complex of Slantsy almost completely defines the general economic situation in the district on the whole, accumulating 76.1% of the population of the district. The town produces about 90% of all goods in the district.
