Tosnensky District is one of the largest districts of the Leningrad Region and is located in its central part. To the northeast it borders Kirovsky District, to the east – Kirishsky District, to the southwest – Luzhsky District, to the west – Gatchinsky District of the Leningrad Region. To the southeast, the district borders the Novgorod Region, and to the north – Saint Petersburg.

The district has a powerful transport and transit potential: its developed transport infrastructure, including railway and road components, is integrated into the system of international transport corridors connecting Saint Petersburg with Moscow and other regions of Russia, and also possesses significant potential for its socio-economic development.

More than 30 large and medium-sized industrial enterprises produce market-demanded products in sectors such as chemical industry, production of rubber and plastic products, mechanical engineering, manufacture of machinery and equipment, production of ceramic products, manufacture of household electrical appliances, production of central heating boilers, production of non-woven textile materials and products thereof.
For 2025, the total turnover of products, goods, works and services of large and medium-sized enterprises amounted to 166.5 billion rubles, which is 5.8 billion rubles more than in 2024.
The volume of shipped goods, work performed and services for various types of economic activity increased by 8.7% and amounted to 107.1 billion rubles.
