Volkhovsky municipal district is located in the central part of Leningrad region, it borders several municipal districts of Leningrad region - Lodeynopolsky in the north-east, Tikhvinsky in the south-east, Kirishsky in the south and Kirovsky in the west. The territory of this district is washed by Lake Ladoga in the north. There are the Volkhov, the Syas and the Pasha rivers flowing through the territory of the district.

InfrastructureThe Oktyabrskaya Railway network runs through Volkhovsky Municipal District, with a large railway junction in the city of Volkhov. The road network is based on federal highways (Saint Petersburg – Murmansk, Vologda – Novaya Ladoga) and regional highways (Zuyevo – Novaya Ladoga, Pasha – Chasovenskoye – Kayvaksa, Kirishi – Gorodishche – Volkhov). The navigable rivers on the district's territory are the Svir, Volkhov, Pasha and the water area of Lake Ladoga. The length of waterways within the district is 70 km. Cargo berths are located in Novaya Ladoga; a berth for cruise ships is located near the walls of St. Nicholas Monastery in the village of Staraya Ladoga.   

EconomyThe economy of Volkhovsky District is represented by almost all industrial sectors: manufacturing; production and distribution of electricity, gas and water; transport and communications; construction; agriculture; wholesale and retail trade. The most developed sector is manufacturing, including: chemical industry, pulp and paper production, production of other non-metallic mineral products, food production, beverage production. For Volkhovsky District as a whole, the volume of shipped goods of own production, work and services performed by large and medium-sized enterprises in all types of economic activity for 2025 amounted to 99 billion rubles.

The share of industrial products in the total volume of goods and services is 90%, or 90 billion rubles.
