More than 60 Japanese companies took part in a joint presentation of the investment potential of the Leningrad Region and St. Petersburg.
Dozens of questions certainly signify the expansion of cooperation. If today 85% of Russian exports to Japan are raw materials, then in the near future the indicators may change. What attracts Japanese businesses to the metropolitan area?
Transport hub capabilities;
The second largest consumer market in the Russian Federation;
Developed infrastructure;
Favorable investment environment.
As Dmitry Yalov, the Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Leningrad Region for Economy, noted, Japan is an important partner for the Leningrad Region both in foreign economic and investment activities. The Leningrad Region understands the desire of foreign business to work according to clear, simple rules, therefore a flexible, “seamless” system of interaction with investors was created.
Anastasia Mikhalchenko, Director of the Economic Development Agency of the Leningrad Region, explained how to successfully localize in the region. There are enough successful cases in the regional "single" window for investors to kindle foreign companies’ interest.
This includes examples of large projects with Japanese companies. The tobacco factory “Kres Neva” became a part of the Japanese concern “Japan Tobacco International”. In 2021, a subsidiary of the Japanese manufacturer of pneumatic automation equipment “SMC Corporation” plans to commission the head office and the production and logistics center.
International cooperation is another important part of the agenda. Therefore, at the meeting, the floor was given to regional business. Representatives of the companies spoke about their activities and possible areas of joint projects. The Leningrad Region was represented by “Novotrans Aktiv” company, which is implementing the LUGAPORT terminal project in Ust-Luga, and “WPP Sviritsa”, which is planning to create a wind farm.
As a result of the event, we have already managed to schedule several new meetings.
