The Governor of Leningrad region Alexander Drozdenko suggested the Council of Europe combining digitalization experience for the benefit of the residents of Russian regions.

During a session of the Management Committee of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe the head of the region told about the introduction of digital technologies and solutions in Leningrad region and suggested uniting the experience of the participants of the Congress in the sphere of economy digitalization.

“New challenges for the regions require an integrated approach to development, which will include the best practices and promptly take into consideration current trends. That is why I suggest combining our experience in the report “Regional digital economy as a tool for integration and participation of the citizens,” applied Alexander Drozdenko to the participants of the online meeting.

The Governor also told about the experience of economy digitalization in Leningrad region. For example, the web portal “Open budget of Leningrad region” allows not only assessing the efficiency of the budget but also making suggestions for its optimization. The vast majority of public and municipal services are already converted to electronic form. “One-stop-shop” principle is already used in the work of the Situation Centre of the Governor, Region Management Centre, Economic Development Agency, etc.

“We defined several most important directions: possible savings in both budgetary funds and energy resources, the safety of the residents, and, of course, the inclusion of our citizens in the management process,” emphasized Alexander Drozdenko. Digitalization simplifies many processes for the citizens and business and significantly restructures the labour market, the systems of education, government support, and provision of new services.
