Exporters from Leningrad region open the world

The results of export activities were summed up during the award ceremony of the regional stage of the “Exporter of the year” contest. Last year almost a hundred regional enterprises entered the international market for the first time.

“Our aim is to enter top 10 leading exporting regions. Today we occupy 13th place, but our main difference is that half of our exports is non-resource exports. To increase exports, it is important to focus on small and medium-sized business, to help and educate, to bring them to new markets.  For a road to appear, you first need a path. And second – support for our traditional exporters, large companies,” said the Governor of Leningrad region Alexander Drozdenko.

Last year 99 new organizations found foreign partners due to the popularization and support for exports. Totally 728 regional companies exported goods. Export geography expanded by 6 countries (144 countries in 2020, 138 – in 2019).

According to the results of 2020, due to the efficient work of Export Support Centre Leningrad region entered top 3 best Russian regions in terms of support for exporters among small and medium-sized business. With the assistance of the Centre, 65 small and medium-sized companies started exporting their products, including 17 companies which have never exported before. The volume of supported export amounted to 32 million USD, while the planned rate was 14 million USD.

The goods were exported to 28 countries, including Australia, the USA, Canada, Norway, Armenia. In particular, 31 contracts were concluded for the supply of timber industry products, 29 – for the regional agricultural goods, 12 – equipment and devices. Since the beginning of the year, the largest contracts were concluded on the supply of lumber to Switzerland and China, fertilizers to the Togolese Republic, a tyre recycling plant to Kazakhstan.

The award ceremony for the winners of the “Exporter of the year in Leningrad region” contest also took place.

The branch of Apatit in Volkhov – a manufacturer of fertilizers – won the nomination “Exporter of the year in industry” among large business. Among small business – a manufacturer of household and industrial chemicals Vershina.

JACOBS DOUWE EGBERTS RUS – a manufacturer of coffee – won the nomination “Exporter of the year in agriculture” among large companies.

Syassky Pulp and Paper Mill which manufactures sanitary and hygienic products won the nomination “New geography” among large enterprises.

“Exporter of the year in high technologies” nomination was won by Institute of Radar Meteorology which deals with development, manufacture and introduction of the automated systems of meteorological support for various sectors of the economy, and “Breakthrough of the year” is Petrokab, manufacturing crane cabins, remote control chairs, electrical equipment containers.
