Carbon-free trend: green power supply grows in Leningrad region.

The introduction of green technologies by the Russian industrialists and the forthcoming carbon tax in the EU were discussed during a session of the Energy Committee of the German-Russian Chamber of Commerce.

The Chairman of the Board of the Russian Association of Wind Power Energy Igor Bryzgunov presented the wind park WES Sviritsa which is being constructed in Volkhovsky district. The wind park is planned to be commissioned in 2023. The company offers electric power at the retail B2B market under direct contracts of sale. The main consumers of the wind park are companies from Leningrad region willing to switch to renewable energy sources, enterprises with sustainable development obligations and enterprises exporting products to the EU that will become the subjects of the new carbon tax.

Economic Development Agency of Leningrad Region provides support to several projects of wind parks. For example, TGK-1 and Koporye WES are selecting land plots and doing research. Besides, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum Leningrad region signed an agreement with Rusnano on the implementation of a pilot project on the creation of a carbon-free zone which includes the development of solutions in the sphere of the generation of green hydrogen and electric power from renewable energy sources.

Solar generation of electric power is also developing in the Russian market. During the session, Hevel company presented its experience and technical solutions. Projects on the creation of solar power stations were implemented for several large companies in various regions.

“Leningrad region is interested in the provision of support for both export-oriented companies – for creation of conditions for avoiding carbon tax, and investment climate projects. Currently, measures of support are being developed at the federal level. We are participating in this process together with the Strategic Development Centre and would like to invite business to discussions,” noted Director of Economic Development Agency of Leningrad Region Anastasia Mikhalchenko.
