The first in Northwestern federal district modular data centre was opened by MTS in Leningrad region.
The Governor of Leningrad region Alexander Drozdenko and the President of MTS Alexey Kornya participated in the solemn opening ceremony.
The company invested 1.8 billion rubles in the first phase of the project.
The head of the region emphasized that the centre will give impetus to development of digital technologies and IT-service in Northwestern district.
Alexey Kornya noted that the data centre will become an infrastructural basis for launch of breakthrough technology projects in Leningrad region and will help the region to accelerate establishment of comfortable digital environment for the citizens and business.
The infrastructure of the new data centre can be used in system integration projects, for storage and processing of the large amount of data, for data back up and transfer of IT-systems to the cloud platform #CloudМТS.
This is the only data centre in Leningrad region which has TIER III certificates of an international organization Uptime Institute. The modular data centre differs from traditional data centres by its capability to quickly scale required compute capacities according to any tasks. The capacity at the first phase is 8 MW and it can be expanded by 16 MW.
Construction of the data centre was carried out within an agreement between MTS and the Government of Leningrad Region concluded in 2019 during the Russian Investment Forum.
