Construction of the Complex for processing ethane-containing gas was launched in Ust-Luga. The opening ceremony took place today at the site of the new enterprise with symbolic driving of seven piles. The project includes a gas processing complex and a gas chemical complex. Thus a unique world cluster that unites both gas processing, gas chemistry and liquefaction of natural gas is being created in Leningrad region.
Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak noted that launching construction of the complex is an important event for the Russian power industry. Vice-Premier noted that the project will become a key link for еру development of gas and chemical industry, liquefied natural gas industry. This will allow Russia to occupy the leading roles in these promising markets.
“This is a solemn day not only for Leningrad region, but for Russia on the whole. The project that will be implemented here will provide economic growth for Leningrad region, Gazprom and Russia. The most important thing is budget revenue, new jobs, new economy, new technologies. Good luck!,” commented the Governor of Leningrad region Alexander Drozdenko.
The gas processing complex will become the largest enterprise in Russia in terms of gas processing and the largest in Northwestern district in terms of production of liquefied natural gas (LNG). The Complex will be annually processing 45 billion m3 of gas, producing 13 million tonnes of LNG, as well as ethane and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Implementation of the project will allow increasing the volume of Russian export of LNG and LPG to the international market. Ethane will be delivered to the GCC, which is technologically connected to the enterprise and will be producing up to 3 million tonnes of polymers per year.
Chairman of the Board of Gazprom Alexey Miller noted that 35,000 experts will be involved in the construction of the complex, and 5,000 new jobs will be created. With the participation of VEB.RF the investor is creating a residential area with social and communal infrastructure in Kingisepp for the employees and their families.
